Lessons from 2016

I learned some things this year.

I learned that feeling your pain fully allows you to move forward.

I learned that the people who love you are sorry for your sadness and truly rejoice in your happiness.

I learned to let go of forever and focus on now.

I learned it’s excruciatingly hard not to say, “I told you so.” (And that sometimes you just have to.)

I learned that parenting teenagers is both exhausting and gratifying, and watching my beautiful children grow and mature continues to be one of my life’s greatest blessings.

I learned that you can put a 10-year age range into a dating website and still get responses from 18-year-olds and 80-year-olds.

I learned that those messages are pretty good entertainment before going to sleep.

I learned that a smile, given or received, actually CAN change your life.

I learned that, although I don’t drink Margaritas at all, they are my favorite alcoholic beverage.

I learned, despite tons of evidence to the contrary, there are still people in this world who mean what they say. They live with integrity, kindness, grace, and compassion.

I learned that, if you find yourself doubting these people are there, to just BE one of these people, and you will attract them.

I learned that my heart, though bruised and battered, can still love well. In fact, I think it loves better and more deeply because of its wounds. And it may sound cliché, but some hearts? They actually DO feel like home.

Through opportunities and losses, joy and frustration, I am happy to say that in 2016?

I learned.
