My daughter got married today! It was amazing and fun and filled with love. And there was also drama.
Now, you need to understand that, first of all, the makeup artist who was making up the bride, bridesmaids, and yours truly, was running behind. We were all supposed to be ready to hit the road by 1:00 (in a limo procured by me) for a 2:00 Catholic wedding mass.
When I was walking out of the hotel room where we all were at 1:00, I was dubious since one more face was due to be made up…
…but the limo was there right on time for the girls, and my husband, best friend, and I were on on our way to the church in a separate car, so what could go wrong?
Welp. Turns out, limos break down on the side of the road at precisely 15 minutes you’re supposed to be at the church.
It also turns out that angels are real – as I may have said once or twice before.
My daughter and her amazing bridesmaids were several miles from the church when they piled out of the worst limo ever (broken down in the side of the road). There they were: five bridesmaids in their finery and my daughter in her white I’m-the-Bride pj’s, wedding gown in hand.
As 80 guests waited at the church, and I apologized and explained to the priest (and a stickler of a wedding “helper”) what was happening, something amazing occurred of the side of the road.
Sherry, whomever she is or was, was driving past the girls and pulled over. She was on her way home from working on behalf of her own church and was driving a huge pickup and wearing soil- covered clothes.
She pulled over and asked the girls if they needed help, and they quickly explained they were late for a wedding.
Sherry, bless her, told them to pile in. She put all their bags and my daughter’s wedding gown in the back of her truck. The bridesmaids sat on each other’s laps in the back seat while the bride rode shotgun.
And Sherry got them to the church.
They were late, and there was a frantic rush to get them all to the door for the walk down the aisle, but Sherry literally saved the day.
We invited her to the reception (which she declined), and we took some haphazard photos of her with the girls. We don’t know her last name or how to find her.
But I think from now on I will think of her as “Angel Sherry” because she showed up out of nowhere for my girl, and she got her and her friends where they needed to be. She gave selflessly. She saw others in need. She was kind. She did what she felt was helpful.
As any true angel would. 💕
(Also, stay tuned for my shit review of the limo company,)
