For all of us, the last year has been out of the ordinary in ways we never could have imagined. We’ve not been able to see so many people we love. We’ve not been able to travel wherever we’d like. Many of us have tried to stay home and limit our exposure to others. It hasn’t always been easy.
My love and I are now fully vaccinated and feeling more comfortable getting out and doing some of the things we enjoy. He has been working in-person as a school district employee this whole time and was ready to get the hell outta Dodge for spring break. I’ve become a kind of recluse – at home with my son who will be finishing up another school year with remote learning.
We had to get away.
It’s amazing what a change of scenery can do for a person. We went to the coast, and almost immediately, my blood pressure dropped. There’s nothing sunshine and salty air can’t cure for this Florida girl!
Something about being alone with nothing to focus on but each other also makes it so easy to have the kinds of conversations that deepen and enhance our relationship. And we learn every time we travel together that we really enjoy each other’s company. I guess if you can survive a pandemic together, that’s saying something! I’m so lucky.
I realized I needed a reset more than I thought – sleeping in, napping, watching sunsets, and generally just “being” has done wonders for my mind, spirit, and attitude. I’m ready for the next adventure already!
