I love how the Universe puts people in your path at the EXACT moment you need them. Like, always.
I was feeling a little (ok, maybe a lot) sorry for myself this afternoon, standing in line at the Bartell pharmacy when I met Carol.
Carol is 83. (I know this because she told me three times.) Carol was sitting, waiting on her prescription when she looked at me and said, “You are beautiful. Are you having fun?”
So I smiled at her, and I said, “Well, I’m certainly trying to!” And we began to chat. I learned a lot about Carol: she has used Noxzema on her lovely face for years; she’s never dyed her blond hair; her husband (gone now) used to call her ‘Christmas Carol.’ All these things she told me with her beautiful blue eyes lit up and a huge smile on her face. I couldn’t help but smile back at this woman and enjoy her company, and my mood completely shifted.
After I finished up my pharmacy business (nothing fatal today), I turned to go and said to her, “It was so nice talking to you, Carol.”
And with a twinkle in her eye, Carol said, “Don’t forget to have fun, beautiful.”
Message received, Universe.
I’m on it.
