Today I sat down with the past, and we had a chat. I have to check in with the past from time to time. The thing about the past, though, is it doesn’t change. It doesn’t have anything new to say. It just is and always will be, and this is both sad and familiar.
As we talked, the Present showed up at my door. The beautiful, wonderful Present – arriving to remind me where to focus my attention and energy. The Present smiles its bright smile and wraps me in its warm embrace if I let it in.
So I did.
I opened the door, and the Present came in like a breath of fresh air. And on cue, the past knew it was time to go. With a few parting words, it slipped out the door and was on its way.
And the Present and I sat down side by side to make plans for the future.
