Where Ya Been?

I let my blog take a (very) backseat in my life the past month, and I don’t like it. Writing has always been cathartic for me, and I haven’t done any over the past couple of months or so. Why? Well, lemme tell ya.

I’ve been working as much as I can as a substitute teacher. I was hoping one year of subbing would be enough to get back into the classroom full-time, but in this district, English/Language Arts jobs seem to be pretty scarce. Getting into the schools and getting to know the teachers and staff helps, though, so I’m working as much as I possibly can in the hopes of landing a job next September.

I was sick for a couple weeks at the beginning of this month. My wonderful partner, who also works in a school, got an upper respiratory bug first, and then he either passed it to me, or I picked it up in one of the many schools I sub at. I still have a lingering cough and am snoring (how attractive!) at night. It has sucked, but I think it’s just about gone.

I also traveled “back home” to visit my parents. I wasn’t able to take my family last summer (it’s expensive!), so I took myself for a week this month. It was good to be there, to see them, and to visit with friends. It was also warm and mostly sunny which I always welcome!

So I have been letting this blog languish, and now I’m ready to resurrect it. I have decided to do another 30 day writing challenge and have managed to dig up some pretty interesting topics. My blog is usually about my life, and I think that’s where most of the topics will keep me; however, I think there will be a few fictionalized posts as well.

“They” say your blog should have a very clear theme (recipes, how-to, kids, gaming), and I still haven’t settled on one clear, specific topic after a few years of having one. Maybe a writing challenge will show me where my (or my readers’) interest lies. If you have a topic I’ve written about that you’d like to see me write more about, please comment or email me directly. It’s always nice to know what you like to read.

Mostly, though, I write for myself. I write to clear my head and my heart, and I try not to think too much about who might be reading. I like to think that whoever needs it will stumble across my blog and find something of value. I also try not to edit myself too much because I find honesty usually resonates the most. Anyone who knows me knows that what you see is definitely what you get where I’m concerned.

I’m looking forward to where the next 30 days takes me, and I hope you’ll come along for the ride!
